MOSS Planned Activity Groups

MOSS currently runs 3 Planned Activity Groups (PAGs) in the Northern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. Our PAGs provide the opportunity for people who are isolated due to disability or age related issues to come together in a supportive, social environment and participate in fun activities which are designed to support their ability to remain living at home in their communities.  A nutritious meal is provided as part of each program.

Our Planned Activity Groups are located on Office of Housing Older Persons estates in spaces shared by tenants to varying degrees.  As such these groups provide a ‘drop in’ service to persons living on these estates but who are not clients of the program.

Our aim is to offer physical activities that contribute to the health and well-being of clients, art activities which encourage creativity as well as thinking activities that challenge clients cognitively in an environment in which participation is encouraged. Our activities at times focus on supporting access to online learning through use of technology such as IPads, laptops and updating program work through blogging. Clients are encouraged to participate in lifelong learning and we adopt an approach that is giving people access and skills to new experiences.

Our programs are not designed as ‘traditional aged care’ type programs. We assess each person’s abilities and interests and incorporate them into the modern world. In our rooms we wish to create a space in which in which each individual is accepted and made to feel welcome by the group.  We want participants to feel comfortable but we also like to challenge them occasionally.  We have fun with group members, whilst being there to support and care for them as needed.

We aim to encourage and facilitate opportunities for group members to participate in community activities by bringing them into our room such as ‘armchair travel’ or celebrating community events or by taking them out into events in the community such as movies or the ‘morning melodies’ music program.
